In short: Solmast manufactures steel poles for solar street lights in heights from 4 to 12 m, octagonal or round, hot-dip galvanized, with a top or side bracket for one or two solar panels, space for the battery and a matched anchor-bolt cage. Each pole is checked for the panel area, luminaire and design wind speed of your project, because a top-mounted panel raises the wind moment at the base 3.5 to 4.6 times compared with an LED head alone (see our wind-load check). We supply poles alone, or complete with our solar street lights, to contractors and distributors in Africa and Southeast Asia.
Specifications
| Item | Range |
|---|---|
| Mounting height | 4–12 m for solar street lights (lighting poles up to 15 m formed in one press-brake pass) |
| Section | Octagonal or round, tapered or stepped |
| Steel and wall thickness | Q235 or Q355 to the calculation or your drawing; wall thickness and base diameter set by the panel area and wind speed |
| Panel bracket | Top-of-pole or side bracket for one or two panels, adjustable tilt, matched to the panel dimensions |
| Battery | Space in the luminaire, a pole-mounted box, or below the panel, depending on the system; anti-theft fixings on request |
| Arm | Single or double arm, arm length and angle to the lighting design |
| Base | Base plate with stiffeners, anchor-bolt cage and template supplied; or embedded pole |
| Finish | Hot-dip galvanized to ISO 1461 or ASTM A123, optional powder coat in your colour |
| Documents | Pole drawing, wind-load calculation for the fitted panel and luminaire, foundation loads, galvanizing record |
Ranges describe what we make to order; the values for your project are set by the calculation and confirmed in the quotation.
Why the pole is designed with the panel
- The panel is the sail. In our worked examples it accounts for 70–78 % of the base moment. Changing a 100 W panel for 200 W, or adding a second panel, changes the pole you need.
- The foundation must match. Anchor bolts and base plate are sized from the same moment. We supply the cage and template with the pole, so the contractor casts the right foundation.
- Tenders ask for proof. Engineers increasingly ask for a wind-load calculation for the exact panel and luminaire offered, not a generic “8 m pole” datasheet.
Typical configurations
| Road | Mounting height | Typical system | What we check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Village, estate or access road | 4–6 m | All-in-one, panel 0.4–0.8 m² | Bracket and top section; anti-theft fixing |
| Urban or county road | 7–9 m | Split system, one panel 100–200 W | Base section, wall thickness, anchor bolts |
| Main road, two panels | 10–12 m | Split system, two panels or high-autonomy battery | Base diameter, base plate, foundation loads |

Supply to Africa and Southeast Asia
We pack poles nested or bundled with protected threads and flanges, load by container plan, and ship FOB, CIF or DAP. For county and municipal tenders in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria and Ghana, we prepare the pole drawing and calculation in the tender format, and can mark poles with the county or client name.
